What should you know about the Alcossebre Promenade?

Alcossebre is a small coastal town that borders Peñíscola and Torreblanca. But what characterizes both Alcossebre and its promenade are its five high-quality beaches and three unspoiled coves.

The beaches are el Carregador, la Romana, la del Moro, la de Manyetes —known as Tropicana by foreigners— and Las Fuentes, all of them with a blue flag.

And the coves: Tres Playas, Cala del Moro and Cala Blanca, the latter located near the Irta Lighthouse.

In addition, Alcossebre is one of the few towns that still maintains its essence intact, without massive urbanization. This is something you will notice when you walk along its promenade and interact with the locals.

And be careful, because everyone who visits Alcossebre and its Promenade highlights the tranquility and beauty of the route. It is a perfect place for families, with a relaxed atmosphere and far from tourism. In addition, the cleanliness of the beaches and the quality of the services could not be better.

Take a tour of the beaches of Alcossebre following the promenade

The Alcossebre promenade is 10 kilometers long, and when you walk along it you will realize that you will not be able to choose which of its beaches you like the most. Our favorites are:

  • Playa del Carregador: a wide golden sand beach with all kinds of services, perfect for families.
  • Playa Romana: stands out for its natural environment and for the large amount of Mediterranean vegetation it has.
  • Playa de Las Fuentes: its peculiarity lies in the freshwater springs that spring directly on the sand, creating a unique phenomenon in the region.

And with so many beaches and coves… how long does it take to walk the promenade?

On foot approximately two hours at a leisurely pace, enjoying the views and making the odd stop at the viewpoints or beach bars. By bicycle much less, about 40 minutes depending on the pace. And running the entire route can be done in about 50 minutes.

If you only want to walk a section, for example, from Playa del Cargador to Playa de Las Fuentes, the route is 3-4 kilometers, which is about 45 minutes walking or 15 minutes by bike. Choose the section you want or do the whole thing.

Enjoy the markets of the Alcossebre Promenade

One of the most beloved events by both locals and visitors is the summer market. This street market is held every Tuesday from June to October, from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. on the Alcossebre Promenade. It has recently moved here, but it seems that it has done so to stay. It is currently located between Avenida Blasco Ibáñez and Camino Palau and has 136 stalls that offer all kinds of products, from fresh food such as fruits, vegetables, cheeses and sausages, to handicrafts, clothing, footwear and accessories.

In addition, during the months of July and August, the nights —except Tuesdays— are filled with another market: the Alcossebre night market. This begins at sunset, being the ideal time to stroll in the cool air and under the stars while exploring craft, jewelry and fashion stalls in the Promenade area.

And wait, because there’s more. If you are a fan of antiques, there is also a market with this theme on Fridays.

More activities to do on the Promenade

Beyond the summer market, the Alcossebre Promenade offers a wide range of water activities, such as paddle surfing, kayaking, snorkeling, diving, sailboat rentals with skipper, boat trips, as well as boat and jet ski rentals. There are plenty of options!

In addition, the Alcossebre promenade connects you with routes that enter the Sierra de Irta Natural Park, completely changing the beach landscapes for mountainous landscapes with impressive views of the coast.

Oops! And along the promenade you will also find an irresistible gastronomic offer. From small beach bars with a good atmosphere such as El Náutico Las Fuentes or Bocatería Piscis, to restaurants with signature cuisine and a taste of the sea such as Piper’s Restaurant & Bar or Casa Antonio.

You know, if you fancy a breakfast with sea views, a mid-afternoon coffee or a romantic dinner at sunset, this promenade has it all.

Of course, there are also ice cream parlors and cafes where you can make a sweet stop after a long walk. The Heladería Jijonenca is the most classic, it has been there for ages.

Other places to visit if you are near the Alcossebre Promenade

If you have already enjoyed the promenade and you want to explore the surroundings a little more and look for more places to see in Alcossebre and its surroundings, you are in luck: it hides authentic wonders.

For example, off the coast of Castellón are the Columbretes Islands, an archipelago of volcanic origin that is one of the most impressive marine reserves in the Mediterranean. You can visit them with an organized excursion.

And if you are interested in architecture and panoramic views, you cannot miss the Ermita de Santa Lucía, located in the Sierra de Irta; the Ermita de San Antonio, another architectural jewel that is not to be missed, or the Almacén de la Sal, an 18th century building that was once used to store this valuable resource and that currently functions as a disco.

Add to your list also the Torre de Capicorb, an old coastal surveillance and defense fortification from the 15th century, and the Torre Ebrí, which was part of the defensive network of the coast and from which you can also get impressive views.
