The Best Dog-Friendly Beaches in Castellón

Let’s get to the important part because in Castellón you’ll be able to find several dog-friendly beaches that are worth it, and we’re going to tell you about some of our favorites.

Gurugú Beach in Benicàssim

Gurugú Beach in Benicàssim is an excellent option for enjoying a beach day with your furry friend. This beach is not entirely for dogs, but it has a specific area that is adapted; there they can run and enjoy the sea without restrictions, unless you have a potentially dangerous breed of dog, which then must be kept on a leash and muzzled.

The beach is equipped with trash bins, water points, and additionally, there are several pet-friendly services and restaurants nearby, where you can enjoy a good meal or a snack before or after an intense beach day.

The only downside we can mention is that the beach doesn’t have many shaded areas, and those that exist are quickly taken; so, wake up early, bring your own umbrella, or rent a parasol there.

If you still have time left after a great day at this dog-friendly beach in Castellón, there’s also a park, the Litoral, which connects with the Pinar Beach, a very pleasant walk to take with your pet.

And if that wasn’t enough, in Benicàssim you also have two other dog-friendly beach options worth checking out: Heliópolis and Terrers beach.

Serradal Beach in Castellón

Serradal Beach is in Castellón, very close to Benicàssim, and has a large expanse of golden fine sand and very calm waters which you can access from the promenade. Despite being a semi-urban beach, it has incredible protected dunes, a natural habitat worth knowing, and houses the mouth of the San Miguel River; overall, it’s a beach of great ecological value.

And it’s full of services: it has restrooms, foot showers, and trash bins, as well as plenty of restaurants very nearby. For all these reasons, it’s one of the only dog-friendly beaches in Castellón that has a Blue Flag and the EMAS and “Q” for Tourist Quality accreditations.

La Renegà Beach in Oropesa del Mar

La Renegà is not just any dog-friendly beach in Castellón, it’s the most unspoiled, tranquil, and welcoming set of coves we can recommend if you’re traveling with your pet. They have coarse sand, rocks sculpted by the sea, are completely surrounded by pine trees, have moderate waves, and best of all, it’s an area with few visitors.

To get to La Renegà, you can comfortably do so by car or by walking through the so-called Green Way—the old railway line. All conveniences.

L'Estany Beach in Alcossebre

L’Estany beach is the first dog-friendly beach in Alcossebre. It’s located at Punta Capicorb, also next to the mouth of the San Miguel River. It has very coarse sand, even with large stones, and depending on the weather, it can be somewhat windy because it’s very exposed.

It’s one of the few dog-friendly beaches in Castellón that doesn’t have a cleaning service, so if you decide to visit it, be cleaner than ever, because no one will come by later to remove waste.

Aiguaoliva Beach in Vinarós

This is perhaps the smallest dog beach in Castellón that we are going to recommend. It’s only about 300 meters long, has quite coarse sand, and you’ll hardly find any services in its vicinity, despite being a semi-urban beach, but that’s precisely its charm.

What should you keep in mind when visiting dog beaches in Castellón?

More and more beaches in the region are being prepared to receive dogs; some of them offer specific areas where they can run, play, and swim freely, and others are entirely dedicated to them.

But to use these spaces, there are a few rules and regulations that you should know, so that coexistence among all users is satisfactory and they continue to be maintained in perfect condition.

It goes without saying, but your furry friend must always be under your supervision or that of an adult, just like a child would be. You have to be mindful that it doesn’t bother other people or even other dogs. Breeds considered potentially dangerous must wear a muzzle and leash at all times, even in areas designated for dogs.

Obviously, it’s also mandatory, as in any other public space, to pick up their excrement and deposit it in the bins specifically provided for this purpose or, if there aren’t any, take it with you when you leave.

And if an agent passes by, know that they may ask you to show your pet’s documentation to prove that it is vaccinated and dewormed. And here we’re going to delve a bit deeper, because we don’t want you to have any surprises during your vacation.

There’s an important discussion about the rabies vaccine. Mandatory? Not mandatory? Well, it depends. In Spain, there are four regions where it’s not mandatory: Galicia, Catalonia, Basque Country, and Asturias — except for potentially dangerous breeds, which must have it no matter what. So, if you’re traveling from one of these autonomous communities or if you’re coming from another EU area, it’s possible that your pet doesn’t have this vaccine, and in the Valencian Community it is mandatory.

If you’re coming from a country outside the EU, additionally, you must enter Spain through an authorized entry point, have the rabies vaccine, do a serological test before traveling, and your pet must be more than 7 months old. Failing to comply with this might ruin your vacation, as they may quarantine your pet, send it back to its place of origin, or in extreme cases, euthanize it.

Our advice? Get the rabies vaccine and carry the documentation with you. The latter is not mandatory, but if you do so, you’ll save yourself a trip to the police station to verify that everything is indeed in order.
