First... a little history!

In the late 16th century, the Valencian coast—more specifically, the so-called Olla de Benicàssim—was an easy landing spot for privateers and pirates. The constant attacks frightened the locals and led to the depopulation of the coastal towns, so a surveillance system was built, consisting of 18 towers spread along the coast of the province of Castellón.

One of them is the Tower of San Vicente, which stands on the Torre de San Vicente beach in Benicàssim. This lookout post was guarded by up to five men, and you can still see in its structure the typical features of these constructions, such as the turrets, loopholes, and gun emplacements.

Currently, the tower has become an interpretation center where you can discover its full history and the changes it underwent over the centuries, as well as sit in the shade in its gardens.
