Benicàssim, besides being known for its beaches and music festivals, is a town that intensely lives its traditions. Throughout the year, various festivals are celebrated that reflect the cultural richness of the municipality.

Among them, the festivals of San Antonio Abad, Santa Águeda, Holy Week, and Corpus Christi stand out, as well as the emblematic celebrations we’re here to talk about today: the Festivities of Santo Tomás de Villanueva, which take place in September.

Shall we tell you more about them?

When and What Are the Benicàssim Festivities Like?

Benicàssim celebrates its three major festivals at key moments of the year.

San Antonio Abad, patron saint of animals, is celebrated on January 17 with the traditional blessing of animals in the Church square and with the burning of bonfires that illuminate the night and gather neighbors around the fire and good food.

Santa Águeda takes place on the weekend closest to February 5 and is one of the oldest celebrations in the municipality. It is traditionally organized by women and includes mass, procession, dances, music, and popular activities. Although both festivals are celebrated in the middle of winter, the atmosphere is warm, welcoming, and very local.

On the other hand, the Patron Saint Festivities of Santo Tomás de Villanueva, which are celebrated the week of September 22, coincide with perfect weather: warm days, clear skies, and ideal nights for open-air dances, bull runs, fireworks, and concerts.

The Benicàssim 2025 festivities you can't miss are in honor of Santo Tomás de Villanueva

If there’s one celebration to mark in capital letters on the annual calendar, it’s the Benicàssim festivities in September 2025 in honor of Santo Tomás de Villanueva; they take place every year around September 22 and last for about 10 days.

During these dates, the town is completely transformed: the streets come alive, stalls are set up, there are concerts everywhere, activities for all ages, plenty of gastronomy, fireworks, bull runs, parades, and the eagerly awaited proclamation of the Queen of the Festivities —both adult and children’s— and their Courts of Honor.

What Will You Find at These Benicàssim 2025 Festivities?

This year, the program is expected to take place from September 19 to 28. And throughout the week, there will be no shortage of gastronomic events, live music in the streets, children’s activities, sports competitions, and exhibitions organized by local associations. All of this with a firm commitment to sustainability, eliminating single-use cups and offering free unpackaged water at official bars.

If you want to know exactly what concerts, performances, and events are planned, you can see them here a few weeks before the festivities, but we can already tell you that… there will be tons!

The Main Day of the Benicàssim 2025 Festivities

As every year, September 22 will be the main day of the Santo Tomás de Benicàssim 2025 festivities.

The day begins with a solemn mass and continues with a procession in honor of the patron saint, which will not lack fireworks.

Additionally, if you visit Benicàssim during these festivities —or at any other time of the year— you must not miss visiting the Parish Church of Santo Tomás de Villanueva, located in the heart of the town. This neoclassical style temple, built in 1796, stands out for its single nave with a transept, its columns, and its sober but very elegant façade. The square surrounding it is ideal for sitting and enjoying the atmosphere.

And Benicàssim Is Much More

After so much celebration, Benicàssim still has a lot to offer. This town is not only famous for its atmosphere and good vibes: it’s also a destination full of history, culture, nature, and leisure activities for all tastes.

Benicàssim is the premier venue for the best music festivals in the entire Valencian Community, with the SanSan Festival—which is also held in September—leading the way, followed by the legendary FIB (Benicàssim International Festival) and the internationally recognized Rototom Sunsplash.

But beyond the festivals, Benicàssim is an ideal place to stroll, discover, and unwind. You can start with Paseo Pilar Coloma, where the iconic modernist villas stand, with gardens and facades full of history.

And if you’re interested in cultural heritage, don’t miss visiting the Museum and Church of the Carmelite Fathers and take the chance to climb up to Montornés Castle, an ancient medieval fortress with spectacular views.

Another gem is the Via Verde del Mar, a natural route that follows the old railway line and connects Benicàssim with Oropesa del Mar through cliffs and tunnels with views of the Mediterranean.

And, of course, there are the beaches of Benicàssim, another great attraction of the town. We’re talking about the extensive and family-friendly Heliópolis Beach, the tranquil Almadraba Beach, or the charming Torre de Sant Vicent Beach, all equipped with services, beach bars, and shaded areas. Moreover, many of them are on the list of Blue Flag beaches in Castellón, recognizing the quality of their waters and services.
